So, uh, meeting my boss’s wife got me thinking back to my old manager. Both found veganism like the light in the dark, religious-like. That got me thinking about the vocal vegans I came across in my life and there seems to be a common thread between them that always rubbed me wrong. 
The issue I have with some  militant vegans is that they rarely consider the environmental cost of a 100% plant-based diet. Very often, abstaining from eating meat/diary is understood as this amazing thing one can do for their environment and the planet in general, and some such.... because plants imported from halfway across the world can fill dietary holes left by animal-based protein and lack of variety it poses - avocado, bananas, chia and quinoa, citrus and so on. All easily available.
In general, being vegan is not in any way anymore environmentally friendly than not-being one (vegan leather, etc). A vegan milkshake form nestle is in no way 'friendlier' to the nature than the milkshake standing next to it. Same with vegan cheese. Vegan burgers. Nut milks. Every 'vegan' product pumped out by a company halfway-across the world.
It's a moral choice and should be recognised and respected as such. The only genuinely environmentally-friendly diet is local - and thus limited to seasonality of greens and fruit. It's a diet that usually contains meat by the sheer force of the lack of options.
And modern humans hate not having options. The ideal weekly menu serves something else every couple days at least. The ideal diet is ‘varied’ and ‘full’ and ‘providing all vitamins and micro-elements we need’ and that means all the vegetables and fruit all the time. We are convinced that we need everything and get used to having everything available at all times, fresh and clean and beautiful. It’s hard to give it up.

大家好! During a period of global hardship, it's a blessing to eat well and have seafood, fish, eggs and meat (including poultry). Many people all over the world are struggling to afford fresh vegetables, fruit and dairy on a regular basis, let alone high quality protein. On tiktok, I've seen pasta recipes with a light sprinkling of cheese and very few veggies. More videos featuring food pantry hauls are also appearing and, if there's meat, it could be the only time these beneficiaries have some.

Apart from mee rebus (noodles with peanut sauce, egg, tofu and bean sprouts), mee soto (soup noodles with chicken and bean sprouts) is another popular Muslim dish. A piquant broth is the hallmark of this Southeast Asian staple, and spice levels are taken up a notch when the sambal cili kicap is mixed evenly into the soup. Vibrant colours aside, this meal is both delicious and comforting, especially on a chilly, rainy day. Whilst I'm including more tau kwa (firm tofu) in my weekly meals, I've not been reading health articles of late. To me, they seem by and large repetitive, emphasising legumes, lentils and a plant-based diet. Is this part of so-called diet culture? If they want to eat plants so much, they'll save money by eating grass and leaving real food to those of us who eat moderately healthy. I don't want this propaganda shoved down my throat.

I turn 47 in March and I'm happy with where my health and fitness are at this stage in life. I'm fortunate to not have any cellulite (have asked friends and family to help me to check for it) at my age. Most importantly, I have an exercise routine that I love and enjoy doing everyday, my appetite is healthy and there's no need to diet. Feeling comfortable in my skin comes naturally and I'm not obsessed with what others think of my body. As long as I'm energetic, dynamic and alert everyday, that's good enough.

So far this Summer, Middle Tennessee has had fairly moderate weather, for which I’ve been thankful. The corn and soybeans crops in this area look fantastic, its amazing how great weather makes good farmers. So we feel blessed that in Readyville, the Tennessee homegrown crops look great. The Kale planted in Spring that has usually been burnt out by now but this year, our crop continues to produce great looking greens. While the small bit of Tennessee Volunteer aka Readyville God Bud, we got growing looks great (it really is a great high CBD cultivar) and has the chance to be a superior crop. Meanwhile, The Old Hemp Farmer has a lot of sympathy for the farmers and agricultural workers that have been slammed with surreal hot temperatures. As I’ve said before that working in this sort of heat can kill a person. Then there is the crop damage, It really doesn’t matter how great your agricultural skills are, if you have weeks of 90 degree plus heat with little or no rain or when the rain does come, it comes all at once, you have crop failure. This also means a lot of outdoor hemp crops that won’t produce. So as I sip a large glass of Iced Indonesian Coffee and vape a little bit of flower, I will creep into this morning’s topic, Hemp. Lately the everyone’s attention has been Cannabis that gets you buzzed, while the interest in real Industrial Hemp has started to wane. While there is more Recreational Cannabis being grown than ever the amount of Industrial Hemp acreage will be at it’s lowest point since the 2014 Farm Bill was enacted. Also this will be the first year since 2019, there will be less acreage of “Hemp” used for making Cannabinoids than the market needs. That’s right, less Cannabinoid BioMass will be farmed this year, than the Hemp Derived Cannabinoid Market needs with difference still being filled by crops from previous years. Which is a fun fact but this morning’s blurb is about real Hemp, the stuff you can eat, wear or you can use to build cool things, like houses. In 2013, when Ryan Loflin did his act of civil disobedience by growing a crop of Industrial Hemp, it was a the continuation of what Richard Rose tried to do back in 1990’s with Hemp based foods which was to bring back a time honored crop (Hemp) back into people's lives. At the time, a lot of people were realizing that for thousands of year Hemp was the dominate crop for a multitude of reasons, that we don’t have enough room to list. So reintroducing the general population to attributes of this fantastic plant was going to be no brainer. Well, it turned that America was in love the idea of Hemp but not enough to embrace the traditional uses of like food and textiles by actually buying them. The truth be told most folks would rather buy a Hamburger than a food made from Hemp Hearts or spend a little more to get their clothing made from Industrial Hemp. Let’s face it, synthetic fibers are cheaper to manufacture and more versatile than Hemp Fibers, while factory produced food stuffs are once again much more economic to produce and much easier to process. I was one of those folks that truly thought that Hemp food and Hemp clothing would find a big enough market to support U. S. Farmers enough to be a new crop that could rotate with crops such as wheat, soybeans or corn but I had mistaken an infatuation for Cannabinoids with an interest in Hemp. I couldn’t have been more wrong, the market for Hemp Food or Hemp clothing quickly got pushed aside while CBD and then D8 pushed Industrial Hemp to the background. There’s a pretty good chance if you are one of the few folks (Like The Old Hemp Farmer’s Wife and I) that actually eat Hemp Protein powder or wear Hemp clothing that your products were made from Hemp grown in another country. So to address the question, “Is Hemp Still Hip?” Thinking back, I’m not sure that true Industrial Hemp ever really was Hip. Anyway as always, Hemp Dawgs and Hemp Puppies keep one eye on the weather and the other eye on the market.
